International Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Programme
Although our campaign relates primarily to the issue of animal-tested cosmetics and their ingredients, we are mindful that consumers are also concerned about the use of palm oil and derivatives in products.
To that end, we are delighted to collaborate with the International Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Programme (POFCAP) – an international certification trademark programme. At the time of writing it offers the only International Certification Trademark for palm oil free products and it is already approved to certify products in Australia, United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, Sweden and the USA. Applications are pending in nine other countries.
Each product displaying their International Palm Oil Free Certification trade mark has been thoroughly researched via their accreditation process and has been certified palm oil and palm oil derivative free. Companies that are accredited cruelty-free by us and have had their entire range of products certified palm oil free are denoted on the Choose Cruelty Free List as “CPOF“.
For all enquiries about palm oil free certification, please contact the International Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Programme directly.
A-Z of Alternate Names for Palm Oil and its Derivatives
The following information about palm oil and its derivatives has been kindly provided by Bev Luff of With Compassion & Soul Inc.
Many food products have palm oil listed as ‘vegetable oil’ and in non food products there are hundreds of alternate names for palm oil. If an ingredient in the product you are researching has any one of the following names then it is most likely to be palm oil unless otherwise certified. On odd occasions these ingredients may also be derived from other sources. If the product you are checking has one of the ingredients below you may want to contact the company to find out its derivation.
Here are just some examples of alternative names for palm oil. Unfortunately the full list is HUGE, but it is in alphabetical order for easier reference:
