Fletcher Humphrys

Hot on the heels of filming his role in the upcoming film Stephen King's Nightmares & Dreamscapes, Fletcher stepped in to talk to CCF. His impressive list of credits include roles in: Last Man Standing, All Saints, Stingers, McLeods Daughters, Something In the Air, Blue Heelers, Neighbours, A Country Practice and Heartbreak High. Fletcher is currently appearing in Neighbours.

"I've been very fortunate. I feel like I just fell into acting. The school I went to, Highett High, Victoria, had a brilliant drama program. I was a bit of a lost student and didn't have much direction. Maybe I could have ended up in trouble with the law. But my drama teacher was very passionate about his art and inspired me. He focused my energies and got me up on the stage. Casting agents sometimes came along to school productions. First I was signed up to do a television commercial and then for a part in Heartbreak High. I was 17 years old. It just took off from there, but if it wasn't for my drama teacher I don't know what I'd be doing now. Whenever you are working it is a privilege because you know there are so many young actors out there who are busting to get a job. I've had some great times and made really some good friends during my time in acting. I particularly enjoyed working on the McLeod's Daughters set.

Just recently I worked on a film which was a whole new learning process. I was playing the part of a dead rock and roll star. Even the makeup was more involved and they had me in the chair for three to four hours before the shoot. It was from the Stephen King book Nightmares and Dreamscapes and was one of eight television movies which will be screening in America in June and here not long after that.

I loved working on Last Man Standing as well and I thought the scripts were great. I'm really disappointed it is not going into a second series.

I read in the papers every year about the hundreds and thousands of cats and dogs that are dumped. People even put their dogs down just because they are moving house. I think the thing that really stings when you hear about people mistreating animals is that animals love you. They don't expect you to mistreat them and they don't understand it. I'd like to do as much as I can for animals. I found out about Choose Cruelty Free when I saw one of the donation boxes in a vegetarian restaurant. We humans can look after ourselves. We destroy so much of the world just so we can make an extra buck. I read in the paper the other day about the top ten endangered species and how in the near future we are going to lose so many more.

I think product testing is disgusting. The human race is supposed to be so smart and yet it seems that all we can do is take advantage of other animals and destroy things. There has got to be some way we can evolve and move on."
